A scaffold contains different stages of mycelial growth. In the upper part, electrodes capture the bioelectrical signals emitted by growing mushrooms. Amplified by an electronic circuit, the signals are translated into pulses of light. The light travels along a glass fiber, bringing together the materiality of two decentralized communication forms, the World Wide Web with fungi, the interfaces of the Wood Wide Web. This light illuminates glas blown petri dishes that contain agar-agar and mycelium, the invisible architect of life. The aesthetics of lush elements from the forest are contrasted through acrylic glass, construction material and ultraviolett or grow light. The mycelia colonies will spread over the course of the exhibition in unique shapes. The shapes of the petri dishes are derived from notions about the form of consciousness from various sources; like what AI imagines or indigenous wisdom. Experiments III is a further development of Experiments II upon request from the HEK (House of Electronic Arts) for the exhibition Other Intelligences.
